Choir and Spire

Sound reaches you first in St Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, Scotland — voices lifting into stone built to hold them, long before your eyes land on anything specific.

Then the staircase. Carved white stone spiraling up beside you, every arch and tracery cut by hands that worked in silence centuries before anyone sang a note in this nave.

I painted the two together because neither one is the whole room without the other — the voices rising, the stone holding still.

Imagine this across from somewhere you sit in the evening, the sound of that choir arriving in your house long after the visit that gave it to you.

Some things are built to last. Others are gone the moment they're sung. This one keeps both.
